Today, December 3, IMSP Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children (CRRC) celebrated Ability Day – an event dedicated to highlighting the potential of each child and promoting an approach focused on capabilities, not limitations. The action was organized in the context of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The event was attended by the Minister of Health, Emil Ceban, the representative of the World Health Organization in the Republic of Moldova, Miljana Grbic, the director of the National Health Insurance Company, Ion Dodon, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education and Research, Sergiu Gurin, the administration and staff of CRRC.
“At the Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children, we see, day by day, how the efforts of specialists, combined with the support of the family and the medical system, open up new perspectives for children’s development and integration. The Ministry of Health supports the expansion of early intervention services at the national level and the consolidation of the rehabilitation network, so that every child can benefit from the necessary care at the right time,” said the Minister of Health, Emil Ceban, in his speech.
“Today reminds us once again that inclusion is not just a principle, but a shared responsibility. We join the global community, the more than 1.3 billion people living with disabilities, each of whom has the right to health, education and full participation in society, and in the Republic of Moldova these are possible thanks to government efforts, but also partnerships, including the one between WHO and the relevant Austrian ministry. Today is not just about challenges – it is about skills, potential and hope – because when systems provide the right support at the right time, the results are extraordinary,” said the WHO Representative in the Republic of Moldova, Miljana Grbic.
Disability, whether congenital or acquired following trauma, stroke or neurological or genetic conditions, does not define a child’s destiny. It represents a context in which appropriate and early intervention can decisively influence the course of life.
Specialists emphasize the crucial role of early habilitation and rehabilitation interventions, including in the acute and subacute phases of the conditions. Rapid intervention, in the first days or weeks after the onset of a disability, prevents complications, accelerates recovery and contributes to the harmonious development of the child.
Acute and subacute habilitation is not only a medical necessity, but also a strategic investment in the future of children and society. By restoring functions, increasing autonomy and facilitating participation in everyday life, these interventions considerably increase the chances of integration into the family, school and community.
The Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children is currently the most complex pediatric rehabilitation institution in the Republic of Moldova, aligned with European standards. Every day, between 75 and 80 children benefit from outpatient services, and another 36 are hospitalized as inpatients, together with their caregivers. Beneficiaries are aged between 0 and 18 years.
The institution offers a wide range of services: habilitation and rehabilitation programs for all pediatric age groups; the largest and most diverse early childhood intervention center, with standardized assessments and motor and psycho-verbal programs; diagnosis, screening and interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders; physical and robotic rehabilitation; hydrokinetotherapy; integrated programs for the most difficult cases of acute and subacute rehabilitation – post-trauma, post-stroke, but also complex congenital pathologies.
