With the support of the United States of America U.S. Embassy Chisinau, a professional eye tracking system has been introduced in the Republic of Moldova, for the first time at the national level, which helps specialists better understand how a child sees, explores and reacts to visual stimuli.
The new technology, available at the Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children, allows for the objective analysis of gaze direction, fixations and eye movements, contributing to the early identification of possible difficulties and the orientation of children to specialized assessments and services, when necessary.
The assessment is non-invasive and can be used even for infants and young children. Currently, consultations and testing can benefit children aged between 3 months and 5 years who receive rehabilitation services at the Center, including refugee children who have indications for such an assessment.
The system was procured within the second phase of the #UNICEF project “Creation and development of early intervention services for children with developmental disorders and/or disabilities”, implemented by Lumos Moldova.
Through this investment, UNICEF and partners contribute to the strengthening of early intervention and pediatric rehabilitation services, so that children benefit from early assessment and support adapted to their needs.
