The Physical Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy Department is a subdivision of the IMSP Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children, which aims to rehabilitate functions lost or damaged as a result of conditions, traumas, congenital or acquired diseases and to optimally achieve the patient’s physical and mental potential with their integration into society.
The major goal of the department is to provide efficient specialized services for physical and motor recovery of children with neuromotor disabilities as early as possible. The department’s professionals will propose individual projects and services for the purpose of medical rehabilitation, overcoming developmental delay, improving the general condition, as well as assisting the family in the process of adapting to the difficulties related to the child’s health and care problems.

The department aims to achieve the following objectives:
Neuromotor rehabilitation of children with disabilities and their integration into society.
Restoration of damaged functions or formation of compensatory mechanisms of the body to achieve independence and better quality of life of the patient.
Prevention of disease progression and the occurrence of complications.
Functional education and re-education of the patient, his adaptation and readaptation for household and self-care activities.
Health education of the family and provision of informational support for the patient’s family, regarding the continuation of the recovery process.
Multidisciplinary assistance to families for the purpose of training them in the issues of caring for and communicating with children.
Organization and functioning of the department
The capacity of the Department allows for the provision of recovery assistance during the day for up to 75 children.
Each child admitted to the Department undergoes a complex assessment by the multidisciplinary team, during which the somatic and neurological condition of the child, the degree of impairment of motor, sensory, cognitive, socio-emotional and adaptation functions is established. As a result of the assessment, an individual rehabilitation program is developed.
Children attend the Department with or without an attendant, depending on age, functional diagnosis and intellectual abilities.
Department activity
The Department’s activity is carried out in spaces specially equipped for the rehabilitation process: doctors’ offices (rehabilitation specialist, physiotherapist), physiotherapy rooms, physiotherapy, thermotherapy, swimming pool, occupational therapy room, sports hall, massage room, stabilometry room, prosthetics room, playground and sports field.

The recovery team consists of a rehabilitation doctor, a physiotherapist, a physiotherapist, a rehabilitation nurse.
The consultation is carried out with specialists such as: neurologist, pediatrician, orthopedist-traumatologist, psychiatrist-psychotherapist, speech therapist, psychologist, psychopedagogue, social worker, etc.
