The Department of Physical Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy is a subdivision of the Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children, which aims to rehabilitate functions lost or damaged as a result of ailments, traumas, congenital or acquired diseases, and the optimal realization of the patient’s physical and mental potential with the integration in the society.

 

The major goal of the department is to provide effective specialized physical and motor rehabilitation services to children with neuromotor disabilities as early as possible. The department’s professionals will propose individual projects and services both for the purpose of medical rehabilitation, overcoming developmental delay, improving the general condition, as well as assisting the family in the process of adapting to the difficulties related to the child’s health and care problems.

Specialists: rehabilitologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, medical assistant masseur, medical assistant in rehabilitation.

 

The department aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Neuro-motor rehabilitation of disabled children and their integration into society.
  • Restoring damaged functions or training the body’s compensatory mechanisms to achieve independence and a better quality of life for the patient.
  • Prevention of disease progression and complications.
  • Educating and functionally re-educating the patient, adapting and re-adapting him for household and self-care activities.
  • Family health training and ensuring informational support for the patient’s family, regarding the continuation of the recovery process.
  • Multidisciplinary assistance to families in order to train them in child care and communication issues.

Organization and operation of the section

 

The Department’s capacity allows recovery assistance during the day for up to 75 children.

 

Each child admitted to the Department undergoes a complex assessment by the multidisciplinary team, in which the somatic and neurological condition of the child, the degree of impairment of the motor, sensory, cognitive, socio-emotional and adaptation functions is established. As a result of the assessment, an individual rehabilitation program is drawn up.

 

Children attend the Ward with or without a companion, depending on age, functional diagnosis and intellectual abilities.

Department’s activity

 

The Department’s activity is carried out in spaces specially equipped for the rehabilitation process: doctors’ offices (rehabilitator, physiotherapist), physiotherapy, physiotherapy, thermotherapy rooms, swimming pool, occupational therapy room, sports room, massage room, stabilometry room, prosthetics, playground and sports.

 

 

The services offered in the department are adapted to the individual requirements of the child and the family, providing services of:

  • Diagnosis;
  • Multidisciplinary and individual specialist assessment;
  • Individual rehabilitation program;
  • Individual and group physical therapy;
  • Individual and group occupational therapy;
  • Physiotherapy;
  • Thermotherapy;
  • Mechanical therapy;
  • Orthosis;
  • Stabilometry;
  • Individual and group hydrokinetotherapy;
  • Scripito therapy;
  • Socialization services for children with disabilities;

 

The recovery team consists of a rehabilitation doctor, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, and a medical assistant in rehabilitation.

 

The consultation is carried out with specialists such as: neurologist, pediatrician, orthopedist-traumatologist, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, speech therapist, psychologist, psychopedagogue, social worker, etc.
